Newsletter: September Is for Small Wins

Why a few tiny habits can be more powerful than a perfect 20-item routine
September often brings the feeling that it’s time to “get back on track”—new routines, goals, healthier habits, better organization, and more.
For people with ADHD or high sensitivity, this can quickly become an overwhelming list of things to change. When the routine becomes difficult to maintain, it’s easy to blame yourself.
But what if the problem isn’t you? What if the routine is simply asking too much?
🌱 September Is an Opportunity to Start Smaller
Instead of changing everything at once, choose 2–3 tiny habits that genuinely support you.
Small habits are easier to start, repeat, and return to when life gets unpredictable. For ADHD brains, fewer steps and decisions can make routines more manageable. For highly sensitive people, less pressure can create more room for regulation and balance.
The goal isn’t to create the perfect routine. It’s to create a routine you can actually live with.
🧠 Think “Tiny,” Not “Complete”
Instead of trying to do everything, make the first step smaller.
❌ Exercise for an hour → ✅ Stretch for 5 minutes
❌ Organize the whole home → ✅ Clear one small surface
❌ Create a perfect morning routine → ✅ Drink a glass of water before checking your phone
Small habits still count. When repeated consistently, they can build momentum and make change feel more manageable.
💛 For Highly Sensitive People: Honor Your Capacity
Your energy and capacity can vary from day to day. Some days call for action; others call for rest and recovery.
Instead of asking, “How much can I accomplish today?”
Try: “What is the smallest thing that would support me today?”
Small adjustments can create more flexibility, balance, and self-compassion.

🔹 The September Small-Wins Challenge
For the next few weeks, choose 2–3 habits from these areas:
One for your body
→ Drink water after waking
→ Take a 5-minute walk
→ Stretch before bed
One for your environment
→ Put away five items
→ Clear one small surface
→ Prepare tomorrow's essentials
One for your mind
→ Write down your top priority
→ Take three slow breaths before switching tasks
→ Spend five minutes without screens
Keep them simple and realistic.
No perfect streaks. No catching up. Just small steps that support you.
✨ Small Wins Count
Small wins can look like starting a task, taking a needed break, setting a boundary, or simply returning to a habit after a difficult day.
Progress doesn’t always look productive. Sometimes, it looks like making life more manageable.
This September, ask yourself: “What 2–3 small things could make my days a little easier?”
Start there. Small is sustainable. Small is repeatable. And small wins still count.
💭 Final Thoughts
You don’t need to try harder—you may simply need a routine that works with your brain and nervous system, not against them.
This September, choose 2–3 small habits, celebrate your progress, and permit yourself to start again when needed.
Meaningful change can begin with one small win.
